Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and the surrounding district is the mineral springs capital of Australia. There are over 100 springs in the region and these are the basis of the booming tourism industry in this region.
Richard Hughes, science research officer for Doctors for Native Forests, has investigated the mineral springs as part of his project looking into water supplies in Victoria. His report into the springs reveals that the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) has had reports on the springs that show that they face serious threats.
The DNRE reports reveal that the springs face the closely linked threats of decreased water pressure and contamination.
